2nd WEEK - almost 4 miles!
So I was expecting to do somewhat better on the 2nd week, but I did not...at least not on my own runs, so I was a little dissapointed on my distance. My runs were somewhat shorter than last week. Last week I was doing 1.75 miles, and this week I ended up doing around 1.25-1.5 mile runs.
But I have to say that I was happier with the runs this week because they were full runs where I hardly stopped to walk and I was not as tired as last week. So I'm finally starting to build up that resistance. But then today, when I trained with the group, I was actually surprised.....drum roll please.....almost 4 miles! I was short about .1-.2 to get to the 4 miles. And I also ran up and down the bridge! 9 more miles to go!
"THOUGHTS ON THE RUN"
As I woke up this morning to train, super early, around 5:30AM or so, I thought to myself.....self, you are waking up this morning to train for this marathon for a good cause. Yes, there will be pain! Yes, there will be exhaustion! Yes, the south Florida sun will make it unbearable! But nothing compared to the after math of what chemo & radiation treatments do to cancer patients. Just like my father did when he was going through his therapy, some cancer patients wake up early in the morning for their early chemo appointments and then head off to work or school, or with whatever their routine is, in order to maintain some sort of normalcy in their lives. They have no other choice, they have to do this with the hope that it will save their lives. Thankfully, I'm just stuggling to get up and run....
That's why we need to make a difference and find a cure! Please help me with this, any contribution large or small is appreciated! Go to my fundraising website here.
Here's some of the Team in Training crew, aka the "purple people"; coaches, captains and mentors. Coaches provide us with the training guidelines to help us get to the finish line on marathon day. Captains assist with the pace and training. Mentors help you with the fundraising and also with the training. It's a great team!
This is what I looked like about 10 minutes after our run (almost 4 miles).... Zo, one of the mentors wanted to make his debut on my website so he snuck in behind me.
A new friend, Melodie.
