4th WEEK - over 5 miles just today!

"Thoughts on the Run"

Every Saturday when we meet we have a "mission moment" where someone speaks to us about why they are doing this.  Today, Fran spoke to us about her grandchild that was diagnosed with Leukemia with he was 2.  She remembers receiving a phone call from her daugther and how time frose still for her when she learned of this devastating news.  For those of you old enough to remember, she compared it to when we saw the Challenger explode, or the assassination of President Kennedy or even more recently the 911 attacks on the World Trade Center.  There was nothing she can do but pray.  Fortunately he is doing well now and in remission, however he is not cured.  She has been fundraising with LLS for about 3 years now and could not stop thanking the group enough for what we are doing, because thanks to our fundraising efforts her grandchild is alive and she can enjoy precious times with him.  With our fundraising, 75% of the monies go straight to research to find a cure and the other goes to patient care and awareness.   Her daughter was fortunate that she was not in need of financial help, but Fran thanked LLS greatly since her daughter was able to get the emotional support she needed when her 2 yr old was going through chemo and she was still caring for a 4 month old baby.  Fran was not able to assist in the day to day treatments since her daughter lived in Connecticut, while Fran was here in Florida.  Although he is alive, the bad news is that he is not cured, and that's why we need to help to find a cure.  Please make a donation today by clicking here, and together we can make sure there is a cure for anyone faced with this disease.

Woo-hoo!

Check out the trail I completed today, Sat 8/30/08 - I almost got to the "Elbo room" for those of you familar with Ft Lauderdale!  That was a total of 5.7 miles roundtrip in about one hour with pitstops for water.  Maybe next time you can meet me for drinks at the Elbo?  Oh no, my bad, they are closed in the morning.

(below) I found a group of ladies (Lori, Lisa, and Julie) that run at my pace.  After speaking about it, we decided to call ourselves "The Turtle Team" since we seem to fall behind the group of runners.  But you know what?  Getting to the finish line and completing the marathon regardless of speed is what's important here!    GO TURTLES!

We are split up in 3 teams:  (1)  runners, (2) run/walkers, & (3) walkers.  Below is the team of walkers.
