 AUG 31 - SEPT 18

So after my 5 mile run on labor day weekend, on Saturday evening to be exact, I felt immense pain on the side of my ankle.  It was odd because I was in no pain during or right after my run.  It was unbearable, so I decided to go to the doctor and she gave me iboprofen for any swelling and told me that if I didn't feel any better by end of week that I had to go see a podiatist.

I felt a little better, but something still didn't feel right and I was still in pain so I went to the podiatrist.  After further xrays and tests, he concluded that I had tendonitis and either I overused the peroneal tendon or pulled it to the point where I hurt it.  Since tendons get very little blood flowing into them, I had to be off my foot as much as possible so I had to immediately suspend all exercise and training, otherwise this problem can become chronic since it would not heal properly.   So I immediately began physical therapy for my recovery.   Trust me, I was so antsy not being able to do anything.  And also so nervous about not being able to run again, but I left it in God's hand and here I am, ready to start over and wake up by dawn (not really, not looking forward to that part) and tackle that road again.

After 3 weeks, I am a lot better thanks to the wonderful staff and attention I had at my dr's office.  No more pain!   He finally gave me the ok to start exercising again, including running and obviously with care and a gradual increase over time so that I don't hurt myself.    So I have to throw away the last 5 miles away and start from scratch cause my body has been doing nothing the last 3 weeks!

STAY TUNED FOR MORE UPDATES - DI IS BACK!

Although I could not run, I still woke up early on Saturdays to meet up with my team and cheer them on!  This is for a great cause and I have to continue with my fundraising efforts, besides I need to continue my routine of waking up that early on Saturdays, otherwise it's going to be tough later on. :-)

On Sept 6, we had a mission breakfast and I had the pleasure to meet Hailey, our honored teammate for Fort Lauderdale's Winter Training Season in preparation for our 2009 Marathon Event.   She is as any ordinary child, full of energy and a cute bright little girl.  Unfortunately, on November 29, 2006, Hailey was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).  Her treatments include 2 years of chemo which will continue until Feb 2009.  She is currently in remission, strong, and full of life thanks to all the treatment research conducted from donations raised through this type of fundraising. I met her family: dad, mom, and her 2 brothers and her father was so grateful and appreciative of this organization that all he kept saying was "thank you so much for what you guys are doing!  Keep doing what you are doing.....please......don't stop!"  Unfortunately, at this time there is no cure for Leukemia so this will always show up in her blood tests, but dormant (hopefully).  With the donations received, scientist are trying to find a cure so that these cancers are wiped away completely and families like Hailey's don't have to stress and live everyday with the thought that there is a possibility that it may come back.  I wanted to share this with you so that you know your money goes to a great cause such as this one.
